    Illicit wins Emmy
The documentary is based on the book by Foreign Policy magazine's bestselling editor, Venezuelan Moises Naim

Illicit: The Dark Trade, a National Geographic documentary based on the eponymous book by Venezuelan writer Moises Naim, Illicit (2005), won an Emmy in the Best Art Direction category at the 30th Emmy Awards, which rewards the best news and documentary premieres of 2008. The award given to the team led by Ricardo Andrade, was given in a ceremony on Sept. 21 in New York, and forms another honor added to the many laurels the Foreign Policy text editor and former Venezuelan minister has received. Illicit is an important study of the penetrating power of piracy and its huge presence in the everyday lives of Latin America. Illicit was also nominated in the “Outstanding Investigative Journalism (Long Form)” category, but lost to a piece titled, Gorilla Murders, which National Geographic also broadcast.
