  • The Group of Fifty (G-50)
seeks to enhance communication among business leaders at the highest levels, to provide its members with a greater understanding of nascent trends and conditions, and to foster economic and social progress in the Americas. The G-50 provides a forum to those who lead the hemisphere's most important companies to address changes as they appear in different sectors and markets of the region, to hear from their peers in other countries about alternative business strategies, and to compare experiences and exchange ideas about the future of the hemisphere, its economies and its politics.

The Group of Fifty was created in response to new imperatives caused by on-going economic and political developments in the Americas and in the rest of the world. Economic liberalization and increasing globalization of business relations and activities have increased the complexity of the tasks of those in charge of the main business enterprises in the region. Now more than ever before, business leaders need to have improved intelligence about emergent trends, increased contacts with and analysis of potential partners abroad, and greater openness and receptiveness to international experiences.

    Network

The Group of Fifty is a network of business leaders from the hemisphere's leading private sector companies. The network is composed of a select group of chief executive officers that run some of the largest and most modern enterprises in the region. All of the members are highly regarded, in their own countries and internationally, for their entrepreneurial skills, personal integrity, and broad interests. Members represent a range of different industrial and financial sectors, as well as a variety of political views and professional experiences.

The G-50 is a non-profit initiative and its activities are fully-funded by contributions of the membership. The network operates with the support of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a  Washington based think tank dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States.  Founded in 1910, its work is nonpartisan and dedicated to achieving practical results.  Through research, publishing, convening, and on occasion, creating new institutions and international networks, Endowment associates shape fresh policy approaches. Their interests span geographic regions and the relations among governments, business, international organizations and civil society, focusing on the economic, political, and technological forces driving global change.  Through its Carnegie Moscow Center, the Endowment helps develop a tradition of public policy analysis in the states of the former Soviet Union and improve relations between Russia and the United States.  The Endowment publishes Foreign Policy, one of the world's leading magazines of international politics and economics which reaches readers in more than 120 countries and several languages.
