About the G50

About the G50Who We Are

The Group of Fifty (G50) is composed of a select group of business leaders who head some of the most significant and forward-looking enterprises in Latin America. The G50 was founded in 1993 by Moisés Naím under the auspices of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the oldest foreign-policy think tank in the United States. It is a nonprofit organization that has no partisan, ideological, religious or commercial affiliations. The G50 is a forum for the leaders of the region’s most important companies to address changes as they appear in different sectors and markets, to hear from their peers in other countries about alternative business strategies, and to compare experiences and exchange ideas about the future of the hemisphere, its economies and its politics.

Purpose

The G50 was created in response to the fast-paced and increasingly complex economic and political developments that are challenging the roles of business executives around the world. Now more than ever before, entrepreneurs must develop a deeper understanding about potential risks and emergent trends and must strive for greater openness and receptiveness through a solid network of global contacts.

The G50 seeks to enhance communication among business leaders at the highest levels to provide its members with greater knowledge of global nascent trends in order to foster economic and social progress in the Americas. With a list of past speakers and special guests that reads like a “Who’s Who” of the Americas, this high-profile meeting has developed into one of the Western Hemisphere’s most important events. Participating members agree that our gatherings stimulate far-reaching and imaginative thinking that allows them to return to the challenges they face; more prepared to identify and seize new opportunities when they arise. Though its principal activity is to celebrate an annual meeting, the G50 offers a permanent base of support to its members throughout the year.

Mission

To promote dialogue between progressive business leaders, with the belief that open exchanges and shared experiences can enable positive social change for the region.
